Walldorf's calendar is built around a handful of town festivals (Feste) organised by the Stadt Walldorf together with local clubs, plus the programme of the Astoria-Halle and other venues. Exact dates change every year, so this page explains the recurring traditions and when they usually happen. For confirmed dates, the official source is the town's Veranstaltungskalender (events calendar) at walldorf.de.
2026: 125 years as a town
Walldorf was granted town rights on 2 September 1901 by Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden. In 2026 the town marks the 125th anniversary with a Jubiläumsfest listed among its official festivals. See walldorf.de for the programme.
The town festivals (Feste)
Frühlingsfest (spring festival) — spring
Held on the car park of the AQWA Bäder- und Saunapark, with stalls and fairground rides. The highlight is the traditional Sommertagszug on Sunday afternoon: schoolchildren and members of local clubs parade through the town to symbolically see off the winter — a custom typical of the Palatinate region.
Spargelmarkt (asparagus market) — June
Walldorf's best-known festival celebrates the white asparagus still grown on the sandy fields around the town. Over a long weekend there are stalls with asparagus and other regional food, live music, dance and sports shows, and a shopping Sunday (verkaufsoffener Sonntag). In 2026 it ran from 12 to 14 June.
Gewerbegebietsfest and Sundowner — summer
Two smaller summer events on the official festival list: a festival in the business park, and an evening "Sundowner" event. Details vary from year to year.
Walldorfer Kulturnacht (culture night)
An evening when venues across town open for concerts, readings, exhibitions and performances.
Straßenkerwe (street fair) — October
The Kerwe, originally a church-consecration fair, is often called Walldorf's "festival of festivals". Clubs run stalls along the streets of the centre; it opens on Saturday with a procession of the clubs and the ceremonial tapping of the first barrel. In 2026 it takes place on 17–18 October.
Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) — Advent
Wooden huts in the town centre, mulled wine and seasonal food, with a programme of music, readings, activities for children and a visit from St Nicholas. Opening days are published by the town each autumn.
Other dates in the year
- Fasching (carnival) — in the weeks before Lent local carnival clubs hold sessions and children's events; the dates follow the church calendar.
- St Martin's Day (11 November) — lantern processions organised by kindergartens, schools and parishes.
- Public holidays — Baden-Württemberg's holidays include Epiphany (6 January), Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day (1 November) in addition to national holidays such as 1 May and 3 October; most shops are closed.
Venues and cultural programme
The Astoria-Halle on Schwetzinger Straße is the town's large multi-purpose hall, used for sport as well as receptions, concerts and shows. The town also organises concerts and cultural events at other locations, and the Museum im Astorhaus opens on selected Sundays. Weekly markets for fresh produce take place in the centre — check the town's website for days and times.
Events nearby
Many visitors combine Walldorf with events in the region: Heidelberg's Christmas market and castle illuminations, the Schwetzingen palace gardens, wine festivals in Wiesloch and the other wine villages along the Badische Bergstraße and in the Kraichgau, and Mannheim's concert and theatre scene. See the Heidelberg day trip and Rhine-Neckar region pages.
Always check official sources
Dates, times and programmes change every year and can be affected by weather. Before making plans, confirm details with the organiser or the town's official calendar at walldorf.de. Walldorf.net is an independent guide and does not organise or sell tickets for any event.
