Walldorf has a relatively small population, but the calendar is full. The town's events fall into three broad groups: traditional civic festivals on the Marktplatz, the cultural programme of the Astoria, and seasonal markets in the historic centre. The exact dates of each event change every year, so this page describes the recurring traditions rather than a fixed timetable. For the current year's schedule, the official source is the events calendar at walldorf.de.

Festivals on the civic calendar

Carnival (Fasching)

Late winter, in the run-up to Lent. Walldorf joins the wider South German Fasching tradition with parades, costumes and gatherings around the Marktplatz. The exact dates depend on the church calendar.

Spring Festival (Frühlingsfest)

Several days in March or April marking the end of winter, with food and drink stalls, music and family activities in the town centre. A traditional opener for the outdoor season.

May Day (Tag der Arbeit)

1 May is a public holiday across Germany. In Walldorf and surrounding towns it is marked by maypole celebrations, walks in the countryside and small public gatherings.

Stadtfest

The town's general summer festival, typically in June or July, with stalls organised by local clubs (Vereine), live music, and food and drink served well into the evening.

Walldorfer Weinfest

A late-summer wine festival celebrating Baden wines and the broader regional viticulture, with tastings, regional cuisine and music. Held in the historic centre.

Tag der Deutschen Einheit

3 October is German Unity Day, a national public holiday. It is observed in Walldorf as elsewhere — most public services and many shops are closed.

St Martin's Day

11 November. Children traditionally take part in lantern processions in the early evening, often led by a rider representing St Martin. Local schools, kindergartens and parishes organise the events.

Walldorf Christmas Market

From late November through December the town centre hosts a Christmas market with stalls selling Glühwein, regional food, handcrafted gifts and decorations. Opening dates and times are published each year by the town.

Cultural programme at the Astoria

The Astoria is the town's main indoor cultural venue, with a year-round programme that includes concerts, theatre and exhibitions. The current schedule and ticketing are handled by the venue and the official town channels — see our Astoria page for background and the official site for performance dates.

Markets and weekly traditions

Beyond the headline festivals, the town has a regular weekly market for fresh produce and a number of smaller seasonal markets — for example around Easter and at Advent. These take place in the central squares; check the official town calendar for the current days and times.

Sports and community events

Local clubs (Vereine) organise sporting and community events throughout the year, ranging from running events and cycling tours through the Rhine-Neckar countryside to youth tournaments and swimming competitions at the local aquatic centre. Participation is generally open to residents and visitors; details are published by each organising club.
